Join us as we welcome our November Artist in Residence, Burls & Steel. Reception attendees will have the opportunity to meet Ben and Sydney Spurrier, the talented duo behind Burls & Steel, as well as learn about their craft of creating handmade heirloom knives using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Ben and Sydney will showcase their exquisite collection of knives, ranging from chef’s knives to hunting knives, and share their experiences of honing their skills over the years.

Knife Making & The Art of Damascus Workshop

The Farm at Palmetto Bluff | $225

Burls & Steel’s knife-making workshop at the Palmetto Bluff Farm promises to be an exciting and engaging experience for anyone who appreciates beautiful, high-quality craftsmanship. Participants will learn how to create a knife from start to finish, with examples of every step taught along the way. Attendees will learn about the process of creating patterns in damascus, while selecting and heating the steel, hammering, and shaping the blade, and attaching the handle. Attendees will also gain an understanding of the chemical reactions and principles that are involved in creating the unique and beautiful patterns in Damascus steel. This workshop is perfect for those who want to learn the art of blacksmithing and leave with a Burls & Steel blacksmith knife.

During this once-in-a-lifetime workshop with Burls & Steel at the Palmetto Bluff Farm, participants will learn the art of blacksmithing and create their own handmade knife from start to finish. Attendees will learn about the traditional techniques and tools used in the craft of knife forging and leave with an example they’ve created themselves during the workshop, as well as a beautiful, functional blacksmith knife created by Burls and Steel that they can take home and use. This workshop caters to both enthusiasts of the blacksmithing craft and individuals interested in acquiring the skills to make their own custom knives.
